Well it is an artificial atmosphere and an artificial sun. In everything they make, the Forerunners pay very close attention to aesthetics, so they probably would have made sure something breathtaking like the galaxy would be visible.
My favorite kind of style for screenshots, of course thats just cause thats my style. I had a picture like this a while ago it is hard to pull it off like this.
